Election Law and Election Disputes

The law of elections is becoming a specialty within governmental law. As the election laws become more complex, governments, candidates, election committees, citizen groups, and challengers require specialized expertise.
Our firm has been at the forefront of Colorado election law, working with the Secretary of State, the Colorado Municipal League, the Special District Association, and the General Assembly toward explaining, simplifying, and coordinating the election process.
We believe our lawyers have administered more special district elections than anyone in Colorado – for directors, taxes, debt, spending, term limits, refunding bonds at a higher interest rate, district organization, district dissolution, inclusion, fire district exclusion, district subareas, and recall. We have also assisted with municipal sales tax elections, advised on election challenges, reviewed petitions, and advised on home rule charter elections, initiatives, and referenda.
Our firm has also been a leader in dealing with the ever-changing campaign finance laws on both the state and federal level. In this regard, our election attorneys have advised candidates, issue committees, political committees, local governments, and businesses on a myriad of campaign finance and reporting issues.
Occasionally, election controversies lead to litigation, often on very tight statutory schedules. Our election law specialists have worked closely with our litigation group to rapidly respond to preserve and quickly resolve the issues within the unique election law challenge procedures.
